Tooth Friendly Halloween Tips!
It is that time of year again where the ghosts and ghouls come out! Fall means leaves changing colors, colder weather and pumpkin spice lattes, but it also means it’s Halloween prep time. Your children have probably already begun picking out their costumes and dreaming about all the free candy. Though all the Doctors of Dental Associates of Delaware enjoy this Holiday as much as the rest of you, we also know what it can bring, cavities! We want each of your children to have the most fun as possible trick –or –treating, but we also want parent’s to keep in mind the damage an overload of candy can do to teeth.
What Can We Do To Avoid Cavities?
Our hope is that your children are practicing great oral habits year round to avoid cavities; however we know that candy and Halloween go hand in hand. Here are some healthy tips for maintaining a healthy smile over the Holiday and beyond:
- Avoid sticky and hard candies as these can damage tooth enamel
- Spread out the candy consumption, not all of it in one night!
- Brush and floss teeth more frequently when eating candy
- Gargle mouthwash throughout the day to get rid of extra sugars lingering
- Trade in candy for healthy snacks like fruit or vegetables
- Donate the candy!
Whether your child is dressing up as a beautiful fairy princess or a fierce ninja there is one thing we want them to all have in common, a healthy Delaware smile!
