What Is Oral Cancer Awareness Month?
Oral Cancer Awareness Month is a month where dentists, orthodontists and doctors work together to raise awareness on oral cancer. This April, Dental Associates of Delaware joins the oral cancer foundation in spreading knowledge on oral cancer and the importance of oral cancer screenings.
Down To The Facts
Approximately 48,250 people in the United States will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer this year alone. While many patients may think that they are safe if they do not smoke tobacco, the fact is that the fastest growing segment of oral cancer is amongst young, healthy and nonsmoking individuals. This is why it is so very important that patients make an effort to get an annual oral screening to check for any signs of oral cancer.
What Can You Do?
We encourage our patients to spread the word on the importance of not only visiting your local dentist, but also requesting an oral cancer screening. During your visit with Dental Associates of Delaware our Doctors will screen for precancerous changes in the oral tissues that can help detect cancer at a stage where it can be more successfully treated.
